When it comes to unique color prints, you can't get much more creative than gum bichromate. Tricolor gum bichromate is a 19th century process consisting of watercolor pigments mixed with light-sensitive dichromate built up in layers to produce a full color image. The process allows for extreme control over your print; whether you want to recreate natural colors flawlessly or embrace beautiful imperfections, with gum printing you will end up with a distinctive handmade print completely your own.

Students will learn the basics of UV-printing from digital negatives. Prior experience with digital negatives is not a requirement but will aid the learning process. Students should bring a laptop with Photoshop installed and many full-color images to make digital negatives from. Students will learn how to mix pigments and prepare their paper, what combinations of pigments work well, how to troubleshoot color and contrast issues, how to print gum over cyanotype, and the best techniques for coating, developing, and drying.
